16-Year-Old In Critical Condition After Shooting Near Capital Region Elementary School

A teenager is fighting for his life after being shot near an elementary school in the region.

The shooting in Rensselaer County happened shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday, July 13, in Troy, near 6th Avenue and Swift Street.

According to Troy Police, two groups of people got into a fight and someone opened fire, intentionally striking a 16-year-old boy. The suspect then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition, police said. Nobody else was injured in the attack.

No arrests had been made as of Friday afternoon, July 14, and police have not identified a suspect.

The shooting occurred just yards from KIPP Troy Prep Elementary School.
